Odd, the windows install disc says it is unable to install windows
tried to format the hard drive with it, but it fails to do that, so although the PC sees its hard drive, looks like it is unusable, means I need new hard drives, which will be costly as both were solid state

Ah, SSDs, haven't used those yet
What does the installer say? I know Windows will refuse to install on a hard drive that shows too many signs of being about to fail, but I thought half the point of SSDs were that they won't fail in such a manner...
So you got the rest of the PC fixed up?

try connecting the drive you try and format to another computer and format it there.
Just to ensure it IS the drive, and nothing else.

Well was on the phone for 30 mins with Dell technical support, ran all the tests the said everything passed including the single hard drive it registers, this leads me and engineer to come to the conclusion that one of the 2 hard drives has failed or the RAID controller has failed.
So when I get home from work I am to remove one hard drive and try to use the Windows disc to try and install, if it fails to-do that I am to try with the other hard drive and try the same, if that fails it likely means its the motherboards raid controller has failed or that both drives are duff,
Bit more info about the 2 drives, both are the same: 512GB Solid state hybrid drive. E-SATA connections.
Was quite amusing talking to the technician as Dells database said my machine should only have on hard drive installed

And yet they didn't pull the "Sorry, you've opened the machine, your warranty is void, we will not give you any support." thing, that's nice.

Nope they can't pull that one as on top of the case there are 2 buttons, press one the left side opens, press the other the right side opens, the right hand side of the PC then has 8 docks ready to take a total of 8 hard drives, when you open it up little lights come on inside the case, no idea what powers them as it wasn't even plugged in
Also it was out of warranty 9 months ago.

Thought I would update you again, I did what they asked, well it shutdown due to overheating which ever hard drive was plugged in, so conclusion is motherboard is caput. Means new PC, can't't afford that until middle of October.
