It should work even if you have account mine was used by those who already long in game. The only thing is it gives to the one you refereed to cc every moth you subscribe and can not be changed. But should work with existing account. There was someone who had rouble with mine but most did not. You might want to try it again there is an option to log in from existing account somewhere. I think under the main form and text.. but do not remember for sure where it was , just that it was a bit hidden for me first.

It worked now. But I only was able to use the link after subscribing. So it's a bit confusing, still. I understood it, that I should get the bonus before I subscribe, but well, now I have it Thanks for your help!
