A wee guide to RP for the uninitiated (or simply unsure).

A small guide for anyone unsure of their RP skillz, as requested by our esteemed leader!
The concept of RP (Roleplay) is fairly simple. It is simply acting (or at least writing) in the way that the character you are playing would act. Beyond that there are one or two common courtesies that RPers like to see maintained in order for everyone to have fun without any drama or angst.
First and foremost is the very basic rule of play nice.
When people are chatting in character they are enjoying a moment of immersion. Nobody likes someone who will go out of their way to ruin that, and neither will the Kestrel Minority tolerate such behavior from their own members. If you think someone is super cheesy, a drama queen, or completely crap, just let them be.
Power-Emoting.
*thrakos freezes your blood and makes your testicles shrivel up with his uber death ray vision before slicing you in twain*
Considered quite the faux pas of the RP community and relegated to what is viewed as the spotty adolescent population. Keep your RP to yourself, you can't lop off somebodies head just because you emoted it. If you want to do that, develop light-saber technology, build one, find the persons address and do it yourself.
Well ok don't do that as it's illegal. Plus if you do develop light-saber technology you should sell the rights to an officer immediately and we promise to protect you from those who would take advantage of your genius!
Channels.
We will be on a roleplaying server. As such there will be certain rulesets we are obliged to respect and follow. The /say and /yell channels must always be in character. Whispers, party-chat and raid-chat do not need to be in character and you can freely ooc (Out of Character A.K.A 'normal talking') away in those channels!
And finally,
Roleplay is always just for fun. Don't ever let yourself feel intimidated or unsure. Most of us roleplayers are lovely chaps and/or chapettes and will happily answer any questions to help you on your way!
