Re: Is anyone playing swtor from a SSD?
Well I just did quick upgrade of my comp, nothing high end though.
Got a i5,12gb ram(photowork is ram hungry and its cheap) GTX560Ti, and a new SSD drive.
Only putting SWTOR on it for now (its a 64gb kingston drive) but I will need to wait till im given access to try it out .I might install it on to normal platter drive and see what difference there is.
While i wait for access I am building some new comps for the Exhibition next door. i3,4gb,SSD etc. Win7 Ultimate installs in under 7 minutes which is just as well since i have 8 to do lol
But for now ,sorry cant really say.So yeah this posts a waste of time

Re: Is anyone playing swtor from a SSD?
For a full experience of ToR on a SSD, both Windows and ToR needs to be on a SSD. ToR caches a lot of files.
On my computer, ToR cache folder is already over 1gb already. Luckily for me appdata is on my ssd, the main game being on my Velociraptor.
For the gain, it's a gain in speed in loading be it areas or textures. Otherwise it won't change anything else.
If you're gonna get a 256 gb, you can put the game on it, you have way more place than I do on mine. I'm starting to feel cramped with my 80gb.
Just don't use it just for installing games, installing windows on it will give you the biggest gain of all.

Yeah good point Amtath. I think a *spare* ssd drive might find a new home from this pile i have. I'll stick fresh install of win7 on it and use it and the other one for gaming.128gb isnt too bad , and got plenty of TB's on normal drives for my work etc that way.

Playing on a WD Caviar Black 1tb here, it runs flawlessly and I have 0 wait times on dialogues and loading times are almost instant.
I heard somewhere that Bioware said that their game might become as big as 100GB by the end of its first year after the initial release. To be able to buy an SSD big enough to work with that AND your OS, you'd need to spend a ton of hard earned credits.

Five time the actual volume? I don't think so. It would require to create five times the actual content. And for the most part, they are gonna reuse the actual content (walls, ceiling, doors, ...).
If we get to 30 Gb next year, it will already be big.
WoW went up roughly 5-6 times with three expansions and 7 years.

Hehe, yeah a friend of mine also told me that only installing windows on it provides the biggest gain. He claims because of it his pc starts up ready to use in ten seconds or so.

Re: Is anyone playing swtor from a SSD?
ToR will expand quicker than WoW though, more higher res textures, all the voice chat etc, it's already started at a point higher than WoW did, i agree it may not be 100Gb, but it will be significantly higher than WoW.
