I have to say the Roman thing is not really about Scots being cool warriors as about Romans screwing up with the whole going to Britain thus overextending itself, besides, obviously their military tactics were not fit for mountainious/foresty impossible-to-manuever regions.
Of course, Scotish were brave, agile and fierce in battles. Basically because those kind of people survived due to natural selection of ruthless climate up in the mountains.

have to mention one of my fav nights of the year... many a time have I walked through a room with a haggis on a platter to be stabbed and soaked in scottish gravy (whiskey!)

The haggis gets stabbed viciously.
I was invited by a Scottish friend to, as the oldest person at the table, bring the ode to the haggis. I downed a 12 year old malt in one go, angering the whiskey gods, and brought the poem with my best fake scottish accent.
I suppose the gesture was more important than the performance.

I've actually been present to some highland games. Caber Tossing was quite something, never before had I seen a man throw a tree.
Then there was the other event where the guy threw the equivalent of a 40kg bag of potatos 30 feet into the air.

That would be pretty cool to see a caber toss in person, seems nearly impossible. Oh and another good one shortbread! Where would the world be without tasty Scottish shortbread?
