Hello Kestrels!
Patch 6.0 has landed and it is a bit of a mess.
How to gear? Is crafting viable? Why do people spam FP and have 306 (end level) barely one week after launch?
This SWTORISTA article shows some details.
What sadly is certain:
Due to fast lanes like Spamming Hammer Station and Red Reaper people just have max gear and several complete sets while others have not.
Barely one week after launch of this massive change in gearing.
This makes especially PvP a total mess since set Bonus and endgear Augs are in ADDITION to bolster 306 or end gear 306.
And bolster on one side and having 306 gear with tweaking the stats you want different from the minimum bolser is also NOT the same and another source widening the gap.
PvP is at the moment slowly bleeding to death having plenty of farmers on while the people not wanting spamming 2-3 days farming FP's just desert this game aspect where they are either at a severe disadvantage (PvP).
Same goes for Master FP or Veteran/Nim OPS as they are turned off by max geared players denying them to join in.
Added to that despite being able to circumvent the slow climb of gearing (by spamming certain FP) Crafting was totally messed up with ridiculous prices and needs.
And again the people spamming FP and higher OPS are the one swimming in these mats and able to craft while again the rest of the player base is lacking things for even crafting green stuff.
This closes a alternative avenue of Gearing which does not rely on RNG drops.
PvP only and other sources of reward like Renown lootboxes or daily areas, Heroics, Story are not equal to this FP spam gearing.
In fact the created gap is almost ridiculuos.
As for the "checks" still in game:
Bolster is still there for Story/Veteran FP, Story OPS and for PvP and ranked PvP you are bolstered to level 306.
(But: Bolster in PvP does not mean you are "equal" to fully geared 306. They still have better bonus normally due to sets, augs, amplifier and often min/maxed Crit/pow/alacrity/shield/absorp which are different than the "normal" bolster. Set Bonus, Augment bonus and amplifier are seperate additions ON TOP of the 306 gear rating/Bolster)
Master FP has a very reduced bolster and some minimum gear level recommended.
Also Veteran and Nightmare OPS.
So while the "broad gearing" (sending around Legacy bound mods spreading them to alts) is OK the "UP gearing" is a grind pain circumvented only with a spam of certain FPs (hammerstation / Red Reaper stealth runs).
The community is very divided about this gearing system.
Several aspects of the game suffer very much (Crafting, other Master FP than HS/RR, OPS, PvP, ranked PvP, Galactic Starfighter) since the rewards are totally inferior with need to grind more time for lesser rewards.
It is very much felt in less pops for certain activities as well as the emptiness of GTN for the new level 75 crafting items.
Unless Bioware reacts this gap is only widening and will definitely have effects on many game activities for the future.
It is already showing with very slow pops for PvP and the spam of hammer station and red reaper you encounter if not queueing in a full group.
Also the rewards for conquest in Sets, Tech fragment and High End Crafting material are much higher for people organized in very large guilds pushes people away from small guilds who are already struggling often to get their conquest done.
We will see if changes like in Galactic Command will roll down on us.
Hopefully they will also work on new content other than balancing.
Because tweaking of over a year like in Galactic Command without ANY new real content will not be well received by the player community.
We will see what time brings.
