Well honestly i think i am split now... i did think that it was a great idea but now thinking about how this would effect the game mechanics, im not sure it would be so good.
someone who is 1000 light and 0 dark is quite obviously light side attuned. The same goes for 0 light and 1000 dark.
what if you were 550 light and 450 dark... would this be classed as grey? as being 500 and 500 would be the neutral attunement but how can you level your attuned items to that.
I firstly have my doubts until i read it on the official sites, but i cant help thinking that they bit off more than they could chew and perhaps Mr lucus himself has said, neutral side.... er no.

I don't like it because it is bad for RP (I mean RP in solo mode).

I usually don't like the light and dark side system. That is why I loved Dragon Age. Unfortunately implementing that solution in an MMO would be impossible and the majority of people likes to count the points.

You aren't going to be gimped for gear. They have said any gear or weapons with a Light or Dark rating will be purely cosmetic.
Also, right now the best gear you can get in game is from crafting with a crit in the crafting roll.
I'm all for people walking a line etc, and it makes sense in a way. However, remember TKM are fully against the Sith empire, and whilst we may not be paragons of virtue and Judge Dredd about the Law...we are the good guys.
I like the idea of being morally gray around the edges, but we're in a war here and sitting on the fence isn't going to win any battles.

I'm just playing devils advocate. Jen'doon will be a slippery snake of morality.
"Jen'doon...the sith are attacking the TKM base!"
"Oh, really? Well as you can see I haven't trimmed my sideburns yet, so..em..can't you send in some trialists to slow them down?"

Grey does not mean passivity. Grao could die to help an innocent (light) , but he can be extremely cruel to a sith (civil or not civil) (dark). I don't see any of them passive action. His alignment point will depend on witch situation will be the more frequent in the game.

Hum just thinking, I will mostly be light but Shandra has anger management issues potentially leading to some darkside, so Shandra will be Light Grey
